Fritz Seitz
Friedrich (Fritz) Seitz was born on June 12, 1848, in Günthersleben-Wechmar near Gotha. He studied violin with Karl Wilhelm Uhlrich in Sondershausen and, later, married his daughter. He began studying with Johann Christoph Lauterbach in Dresden in 1874. Afterwards, he became the music director at Sondershausen and then the concertmaster at Magdeburg. He became the "Hofkonzertmeister", or conductor of the court orchestra, at Dessau in 1884. He died on May 22, 1918 in Dessau. He was, in addition to performing regularly, an active teacher. He made a lasting contribution to music with his chamber music and, most notably, with his eight student violin concerti, which were intended to introduce pupils to nineteenth-century concerto technique.
